Gaza humanitarian blockade and famine
The Europe Peace Foundation regards the evolving famine conditions in Gaza as not just a humanitarian calamity but a moral indictment of how war is being waged. Entire communities in Gaza are experiencing catastrophic food insecurity: 100 % of the population is classified as in “high levels of acute food insecurity,” and more than 640,000 people are projected to suffer the worst, catastrophic (IPC Phase 5) conditions. Already, over 440 deaths have been attributed directly to malnutrition and starvation, including many children. The root causes lie in the war, the naval and land blockade, the destruction of food production and distribution infrastructure, and the obstruction of aid entry. We see in this a stark example of starvation weaponized as a method of warfare.
From the Europe Peace Foundation’s perspective, the international community — including Europe — must demand immediate lifting of barriers to aid, robust protection for civilians, and negotiating pathways to peace. We urge that no political strategy be allowed to override the sanctity of human life. Every corridor of aid must remain open; every voice for peace must be empowered.
