Darfur, Sudan: attacks on civilians in El-Fasher
In September 2025, at least 91 civilians were killed in the city of El-Fasher in Sudan, under siege and hit by artillery, drone strikes, and ground incursions, particularly affecting the Daraga Oula neighborhood. The Europe Peace Foundation sees this as a painful emblem of what war does to human life and dignity. Already trapped behind fractured lines, residents were denied safe evacuation and access to aid, as siege tactics amplified vulnerability. Survivors making arduous escapes to places like Tawila arrive gravely wounded or perish en route. Health services are collapsing, hunger is mounting, and journalists and humanitarian workers face targeted violence. From our standpoint, attacks on civilians and besieged populations are not collateral accidents but violations of the very foundations of peace and human rights.
We demand that parties to the conflict cease such tactics, allow full humanitarian access, and enter genuine dialogue. Europe must press for enforceable protections for civilians, bolster mediation efforts, and reject impunity. True peace demands that every human being be shielded from violence, especially the most vulnerable.
