President KC Calls for a Permanent Peace and Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula
Thursday, 14 August 2025 – North and South Korea remain in a military standoff, experiencing intermittent clashes. This conflict has persisted beyond the conclusion of the Cold War and continues to this day.
Achieving peace between North and South Korea is essential. Both nations are technically still engaged in a state of war, as the Korean War concluded in 1953 without a formal peace treaty. Tensions between the two Koreas remain elevated. Recently, North Korea refuted South Korea’s assertions regarding the removal of propaganda speakers and has adopted a more rigid position towards the South.
In general, a significant number of South Koreans still regard North Koreans as compatriots, indicative of a shared historical and cultural bond. Presently, the relationship between North and South Korea is at its lowest point in years.
I consistently extend my offer of mediation to both North and South Korea to achieve a lasting peace agreement, promote denuclearization, and enhance regional stability, as multiple stakeholders, including the two Koreas, the United States, China, and other nations, play vital roles in these endeavors.
I call upon all parties to unite in a collective effort to bring this dreadful conflict to a conclusion, through an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, and to endorse my Global Peace 2030 initiative.
